When feeling overwhelmed, anxious or stressed,

  • take a moment to offer yourself soothing touch and kind words.

Five Finger Check-In

  • can then be used to ground and bring self-care.
  • Ask yourself:
  1. Do I need to eat?
    • Dehydration or hypoglycemia contribute to anxiety, depression and irritability.
  2. Do I need to go to the bathroom?
    • That ‘too busy to pee’ feeling keeps the stress response activated.
  3. Do I need to sleep or rest?
    • Lack of sleeps makes us more reactive.
  4. Do I need to move?
    • Exercise detoxifies and moves stress chemicals out of the body.
  5. Do I need to connect with someone?
    • Connection heals and calms the nervous system.
