Sep 10th is the World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) was first launched in 2003 on the 10th of September by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) with the endorsement of the World Health Organization (WHO). The 10th of September each year has been designated as a way of focusing attention on the problems of suicide worldwide. 

The purpose of having events and programs around this date is to destigmatize conversations about suicide by creating a space where people can connect and share with others who have experienced various forms suicidality.

ASIST workshop

ASIST is an internationally acclaimed two day skills building workshop that prepares participants to provide suicide first aid interventions.

It is open to VIU staff and students

Next session: September 20 -21 from 8:30 am - 04:00 pm

This session is not recommended for people who have had a recent suicide loss.

SafeTALK workshops

LivingWorks safeTALK trainees learn to recognize when someone is thinking about suicide and connect them to an intervention provider. 

This session is not recommended for people who have had a recent suicide loss. 

This FREE workshop is open to VIU staff and students and will run from 09 an to 1pm
