ACCUPLACER (Grade 12 English Equivalency Test)

UPDATE: As of March 1st, 2024, Accuplacer test fees will be increased to $75 for the initial assessment and $60 for all rewrites.

The ACCUPLACER test is used to assess Grade 12 English Equivalency. The ACCUPLACER is a computer-based test composed of three parts: reading comprehension, sentence structure (Writing Skills), and essay writing (WritePlacer).

Our exam centre offers both in person and Off Campus Accuplacer tests.

The Off Campus Accuplacer is available for applicants residing outside of VIU's Cowichan, Nanaimo and  tiwšɛmawtxʷ campus regions. Applicants residing in VIU's campus regions are strongly encouraged to write the assessment in person.

Accuplacer fees are non-refundable.

Canada Summer Jobs Program

Program Overview

Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, which aims to provide flexible and holistic services to help all young Canadians develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labor market. The program provides wage subsidies to employers from not-for-profit organizations, the public sector, and private sector organizations with 50 or fewer full-time employees, to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years.

Key Features

  • Target Group: Young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.
  • Employer Eligibility: Available to public sector, private sector employers with 50 or fewer full-time employees, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Funding: Up to 50% of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage for private and public sector employers; up to 100% for nonprofit organizations.
  • Duration: Summer jobs must be between 6 and 16 weeks in duration.

Application Timeline

  • Application Opening: Typically opens in December or January each year.
  • Application Deadline: Usually by the end of January or early February.
  • Notification of Decision: Employers can expect to be notified about the status of their applications by April.
  • Project Start Date: Funded projects can begin starting April, with the latest start date usually in May.

Approval Process

The approval process involves several steps:

  1. Review of Eligibility: Initial screening for the fulfillment of all eligibility criteria.
  2. Assessment of Applications: Applications are assessed based on program objectives and priorities, such as:
    • Providing work experiences relevant to the future labor market prospects of the youth.
    • Supporting organizations that provide important community services.
    • Consideration for projects that support and protect vulnerable populations.
  3. Notification: All applicants are notified of the approval or rejection of their proposals and funding allocation.

How to Apply

Employers interested in applying for the Canada Summer Jobs program should prepare by ensuring they meet eligibility criteria and gather necessary documentation. Applications can be submitted online through the Service Canada website when the application period opens. Detailed guidelines and application forms are available on the website.

WritePlacer Essay

Tuesdays - 5:00 p.m. or Thursdays - 6:00 p.m.

Focus on toning and strengthening the whole body with a series of exercises targeting all major muscle groups.
